What a Jem!

If you ever wished you were the lead singer of an 80s rock band who also had super powers, owning this purse may be the closest you ever get. Star Earrings and the rest of the Holograms are sadly not included.

Betsey Johnson...Bankrupt?!

Betsey Johnson filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy yesterday. We love you Betsey and we have no doubt that this is just a minor setback in an otherwise amazing career with plenty more success (and cartwheels) ahead!

Betsey Johnson Collection vs Betsey Johnson

Yes...apparently there is now a difference. What was once just "Betsey Johnson" is now "Betsey Johnson Collection" ("Chic, Glamorous, Cool, Timeless treasures for my Uptown Precious Princess" according to the website) and we now celebrate the advent of simply "Betsey Johnson" ("Cool, Edgy, Relaxed & a bit Quirky, I am giving a Rock 'n Roll twist to the classic Betsey look at prices that won't make you blush")

I'm still not quite sure how "Betseyville" and "Betsey" (Is there just a "Betsey?") fit into all this, but that is for another post.

But what was that? Could it be? Betsey Johnson coming out with a line of clothes that are ACTUALLY AFFORDABLE FOR THE AVERAGE HUMAN? Clearly this is the best news of the century. Hands down. Or rather, would be the best news of the century if the pieces were actually as inexpensive as they were cracked up to be.

A quick visit to the website shows that your typical Betsey Johnson No-Collection T-shirt will still set you back at least $50, and easily closer to $80. While a sale discount might bring that down to a reasonable $20-$30, it seems we will still be waiting it out for glorious, Bargain Betsey after all.

Sadface.

Impractically Pink

Mojo Moxy "Mindy" in Fuchsia- $80.99, Betsey Johnson "Glitzeee"-$139 (hopefully reduced soon?)

I've never heard of "Mojo Moxy" before but seeing the shoes on the upper left I am immediately impressed. The shoes have a carefree youthfulness and spunk about them that goes right along with the brand name. Granted- I have no idea where I would ever where such giant platforms (or if I could even walk there safely. Read: the-6"-Platform-Flip-Flop-Cobblestone-Catastrophe-of-2011) but we can still dream. They're also available in black for those of you who are digging the massive almost-wedge platform but not the color.

On the right, we have the Elle Woods Shoe to end all Shoes. I've had my eye on these for awhile and plan to swoop once the pricetag falls below $90 (If ever). I'll probably have to save them for birthdays and other such events where I can pair them with a tiara and princess poof skirt, but they will surely be well worth it. (Again, if you're not digging the color there are many other options, my runner up favorite being black with red-lips detail) There is also a flats version, but if you ask me the effect is hardly the same.

And since I mentioned them yesterday just for kicks, here's the Betsey Johnson Caseyy-R in Pink. Pretty fabulous. (If you haven't noticed, BJ is basically my favorite. I may or may not use that abbreviation en masse in the future for fear of epic misunderstanding).

The Little Black Shoe

One thing I surprisingly don't own is a standby pair of black, formal heels. (Obviously, a versatile wardrobe necessity). I've been getting by with a great pair of sandals and some slightly more outfit-specific booties, but in the chilly months or with a longer skirt simply neither will do.

The Current Collection:

Betsey Johnson Law- ~$130
(Can be found for less) ..............................................Steve Madden Luxe Suede Pump- $90

If you liked the look of the second pair, I apologize. Thirty minutes of googling could not yield the picture or official style name. Sorry to be such a FashionTease. (And please excuse my dry, scarcely shaven legs. Like I said, it's February)

I know, I know, not quite in keeping with the "Fashion Blog for Everyone" Mantra price-wise, but considering the amount of wear I get out of them it's pretty worth it. Anyway, Enter the Runners up for the next major Little Black Shoe:

The second I saw this silouhette I was in love. I am a huge fan of the bow-on-heel movement*, and the rhinestones are the perfect finishing touch. For what it's worth this shoe also comes in a bright Christmassy Red and Girly Pink which are also amazing, but trying to stay on task here.

(*I soon hope to see actual acrylic bows on the back of spike heels. Also: bows laterally wrapped midway around the entire shoe like a fabulous christmas present of fashion. You heard it here first!)

Betsey Johnson Caseyy-R- ~$80 ($130 Full Retail)

So this one I just saw now but I think also deserves a shout-out. I am a sucker for anything printed/Newspaper looking. (Also available in
inverse black on white)

..............................Ed Hardy Mato Pump- $69.99

Alright, not nearly as sophisticated as we were going for and back on the bootie-bandwagon, but they're pretty badass and would look great for a night out on the town. I've been looking at these for awhile but have had trouble overcoming the $90 price tag.

Iron Fist Digi Skull Bootie- $89.99

Yet another Iron Fist pick. (I warned you- they are quickly becoming one of my favorite brands).
Again, more attitude than you might take to dinner at the Ritz... but how often do you really eat there anyway?

I would probably already own these if it weren't for a.) the price tag and b.) the fact that the height of that heel actually frightens me a little (a deadly weapon of its own at 5").

(If you like the artwork but not the shoe, a shirt and bag are also available at their website)

Iron Fist Parting Kiss- $89.99

And while we're on the topic of things I can't afford, here's a little High Fashion Porn to whet your appetite. (Yes, these were sported by Zoe Kravitz)

Alexander Wang "Liya" Pumps- $615
(Made from Suede, Leather, and...Stingray!?)

(High Five if you immediately thought of the "Manta Ray" Designer joke from SpiceWorld)
